April 5, 2012 – The SPWCH has been forwarded an April 3rd letter from the State Office of Historic Preservation determining that the state agency has concurred with CalTrans that the Valley Springs train depot and the Good Friends building are eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. The efforts made by the SPWCH and the information provided by us helped make this very important step possible (we believe the Valley Inn building should also be so designated). In addition, we hope there is, as CalTrans asserts, “no impact” on these buildings from the 12/26 Intersection Improvement Project. We will continue to be the area’s only organization championing historic preservation.
