The SPWCH archives now boasts 7,500 items, with its latest addition (#7500) being an artifact from an early Valley Springs post office. The antique wood mail sorter cabinet, shown here, was acquired by Dick and Esther Queirolo reportedly when the post office building was renovated, perhaps in the 1970s. Last month, the pre-1940s artifact was donated by Queirolo cousin Cliff Jepsen to Julia Costello and the Mokelumne Hill History Society, who appropriately then donated it to the SPWCH. At present, the 3' x 5' cabinet holds a prominent place in the old Wallace post office, which the SPWCH has transformed into the Museum of West Calaveras History.
