June 20, 2016 -- A circa 1900 silver-plated cup less than three inches in height has become the 5,000th item in the archives of the Society for the Preservation of West Calaveras History (SPWCH). Recently donated by John and Jean Reinking, the cup was passed down to John from his father's family. One of the area's pioneers, Henry Reinking arrived in West Calaveras County in the 1850s, and his ranch was located at the site of today's LaContenta golf course. The SPWCH passed the 4,000 mark in November 2013. To reach 5,000, the SPWCH has since averaged more than one item joining its archives each day, according to Sal Manna, the nonprofit history group's founder and president. #lovingcalaveras
