SPWCH SAVES OLD WALLACE POST OFFICE

February 22, 2015 - The tiny building that served as the Wallace post office from the first decade of the 1900s and for a few decades thereafter has been donated to the SPWCH by owner Karen Cox, in lieu of its demolition. This past week, the SPWCH removed the attendant debris, cut the building into sections and carted it off for safekeeping. We are currently formulating plans for its restoration and public display to benefit the entire community. Donations of funds as well as construction materials will be needed when the time comes. Thanks go to Liz Weaver for her two days of assistance, and her well-placed martial arts leg kicks; Chris and Donnie for loading the large building pieces on the final day; and Mike and Carol McDaniel for the use of their trailer and power tools. The photos here show the intact building; Chris, Liz and Donnie at work; Sal Manna doing the tear down; and what remained after the final day.
