David Earl Evans Jr. (left) was presented the 2014 Richard Taylor Pioneer Award from Sal Manna (right), president of the Society for the Preservation of West Calaveras History, on Sunday, January 12th. Evans was acknowledged for researching his pioneering family, whose T.C. Evans owned the first and only hotel in Wallace, and for his early and constant support of the SPWCH. He was also given a ceremonial railroad spike, a token which has accompanied the award to the two previous honorees--Tom Duke (2008) and Merv Kirk (2013). (The SPWCH thanks Carol and Mike McDaniel for their work on the award and spike.)
