BURSON, CA -- September 1, 2010 -- A remote cave in the Burson area filled with nearly two dozen grinding holes and numerous Native American petroglyphs and pictographs has been documented for the first time by the Society for the Preservation of West Calaveras History. Though noted by archeologists in 1960 and designated a “major site” that could be excavated, the so-called Big Cave had never been photographed before the SPWCH’s Richard Taylor and Sal Manna visited the location in March of this year. An archeologist specializing in Native Americans is helping the SPWCH conduct further research at the site, whose location has not been disclosed to the general public.
